Voter turnout of national parliamentary elections in Norway 1945-2021

Every four years, the Norwegian population entitled to vote goes to elect their parliament. In September 2021, there were roughly 3.88 million people aged at least 18 years who were registered as eligible voters in Norway. More than 77 percent of these voted in the last Norwegian parliamentary (Stortinget) election, slightly less than four years before.

Results of the 2021 parliamentary election

The Norwegian parliament consists of 169 representatives from 19 electoral districts. It is the highest political body in the country. Its tasks include legislation and adopting the national budget, as well as monitoring the work of the government and the public administration. In the most recent election in 2021, the Labour Party obtained the most votes and will form a new government, most likely with the Centre Party and the Socialist Left Party*. The Conservative Party had governed the country the previous eight years in a centre-right coalition led by Erna Solberg.

Changes from last election

The Centre Party was the elections biggest winner compared to the results in 2017. Moreover, the Red Party managed to surpass the electoral threshold for the first time in its history. The Conservative Party, on the other hand, lost almost five percent of its share of the votes compared to 2017. Furthermore, the Christian Party, which had been a part of the Solberg-government, fell below the electoral threshold.
